Slaughter of the Seals
Many things to do here. Most importantly, do not buy any fashion products from companies that use seal fur. Write to your MP regarding the issue. Write to the Canadian embassy.
Whale Hunting
It always seems to be two steps forward and one step back on this issue. Greenpeace is probably the most effective organisation in this fight - you can get more information from the Greenpeace - Whale Hunting site.
Farmers and Killing for Pleasure
We need to change both what is culturally acceptable and indeed the law of the land itself. Wife-beating, sticking 10 year-olds up chimneys and drink driving are now all considered socially unacceptable, so such a change in attitude is possible. In the vanguard here is the League Against Cruel Sports. Lend them your support and join in the lobbying. Success against fox hunting has shown the way.
China in Particular
The most effective course of action is probably to boycott Chinese goods and services. To ensure that this has the maximum effect, it would help to write to your MP and to the Chinese embassy describing your actions and your reasons for doing so. There are several petitions you can add your name to. One is available here.
Asia in General
The problem is so widespread, and the geographical area so large, that it's hard to know where to start here. Petitions are probably the best way to go, but I'd love to hear of any other ideas. Turkey/Pakistan - Bears etc
The WSPA is really onto this one. It's the area of concern that first made me a supporter of theirs. The most useful action you can take is to make a regular donation. There are other suggestions, including annoying the hell out of the Pakistani ambassador, here.
Bull Fighting
Here is a useful page with details of petitions and email addresses. In the case of us Brits, it's comforting to know that if we stopped holidaying in Spain in protest, their economy would suffer enormously. I wonder how many we can persuade to do so, and to explain their reasons to the Spanish ambassador?
Fur and Fashion
As always, petitions are available (for example here). In this case, however, I feel that a boycott is this best approach. Jennifer Lopez has, in a way, helped the cause here. A large-scale boycott of the purchasing of her 'artistic output' would, if the effect was large and the reason for it well publicised, attract wide-ranging media interest. 'Maid in Manhattan' is already in the bin as I write this!
